Magnificent Frigate Bird

This bird was seen from the Block Island Ferry on June 9'th of 2011 while the ferry was docked in Old Harbor.

Curlew Sandpiper

A Curlew Sandpiper was seen on the evening of May 21'st and again briefly during the morning of the 22'nd of 2011.

Ross's Goose

This goose was present at a few locations in Bristol from the 10'th through the 12'th of March 2011.

Green-tailed Towhee

This bird was discovered at the Second Beach Campground in Middletown during the Newport-Westport Christmas Bird Count on 18-Dec-2010. It lingered in the same area for several weeks.

Band-rumped Storm-Petrel

This bird was seen during an overnight pelagic trip to Block Canyon. It is the first state record for this bird.

Painted Bunting

A Painted Bunting was seen during the morning of December 12'th 2009 and again on the 18'th around Moonstone Beach Rd. in South Kingstown.

Black-headed Grosbeak

A Black-headed Grosbeak visited feeders along Charlestown Beach Road in Charlestown from December 7'th through December 14'th of 2008.

Northern Wheatear

A Northern Wheatear was seen feeding in the soil exposed by turf harvesting on a turf farm in Slocum from approximately September 15'th through September 29'th of 2008.

Bohemian Waxwing

At least three Bohemian Waxwings were seen in Rhode Island during the winter of 2007-2008, including this one that was at Genesee Swamp in South Kingstown.

Hoary Redpoll

One or two Hoary Redpolls were seen regularly at Bold Point Park in East Providence from late February through early April of 2008.

Ivory Gull

This gull was discovered in a private area of Little Compton on Dec-07-2007 and was also seen the next day.

Bell's Vireo

A first state record Bell's Vireo was discovered at Sachuest Point NWR on Nov-24-2007. It was last seen on December 1'st.

Pacific Loon

This Pacific Loon was off of Block Island from Oct-02 to Oct-06, 2007.

South Polar Skua

One of two South Polar Skuas seen on a pelagic birding trip aboard the SNAPPA out of Galilee, RI May-24-2007.

Barnacle Goose

Yet another good goose on Aquidneck Island in the winter of 2007. This goose was seen in Portsmouth in January, February and March of 2007.

Cackling Geese

Two Cackling Geese were seen periodically with the Canada Geese in Newport, RI during January and February of 2007.

Pink-footed Geese

Two Pink-footed Geese joined thousands of Canada Geese in Newport, RI during January and February of 2007.

Le Conte's Sparrow

This Le Conte's Sparrow was at the Avondale Preserver in Westerly, RI on Nov. 4'th and Nov. 5'th of 2006.

Mew/Common/Kamchatka Gull

This gull was at Watchemoket Cove in East Providence in January and February of 2006.

Sabine's Gull

This gull was seen on a pelagic birding trip out of Galilee, RI on Sep-11-2005.

Audubons's Shearwater

This Audubon's Shearwater was seen on a pelagic birding trip out of Galilee, RI on Aug-24-2005. These shearwaters rarely travel this far north.

American White Pelican

An American White Pelican was found in Narraganset Bay in December of 2004. At the end of the month, it moved to Winnapaug Pond in Westerly. By mid February, it had expired.

Curlew Sandpiper

A breeding plumage Curlew Sandpiper was found on the Ninigret Pond tidal flats at the Charlestown Breachway on July 15, 2004. It was seen again the following day.

Reddish Egret

A Reddish Egret spent most of July and August of 2003 on the Ninigret Pond tidal flats at the Charlestown Breachway.

Brown Booby

A Brown Booby landed on the Gale Francis during a combined pelagic bird watching and cod fishing trip on the southern edge of Cox's Ledge on May 5'th 2001.
